Osmanthus Thai Oolong Tea

DMS Gui Hua Osmanthus Oolong Tea

Gui Hua Osmanthus Oolong is a low-oxidized Oolong tea from Doi Mae Salong, north Thailand, naturally scented with Osmanthus blossoms. At this, the scenting takes place in the traditional way, known from China. In this case, this means tea leaves of the Ruan Zhi cultivar (“N° 17”) are processed together with Osmanthus blossoms under heat feed. Then, after scenting, the Osmanthus blossoms are carefully picked out of the leaf material again. Accordingly, only tiny particles of the natural aroma donor are still present in the tea after processing. Through rolling, the tea leaves take on the characteristic ball shape of Taiwan-style Oolong teas.

In the nomenclature of DMS Gui Hua Osmanthus Oolong Tea, “DMS ” means the region of cultivation, Doi Mae Salong. Further, “Gui Hua” is the Chinese word for Osmanthus blossom.

Doi Mae Salong, Center of Tea Cultivation in North Thailand

Doi Mae Salong is the center of tea cultivation in north Thailand. Since the end of the 1980’s, there’s a number of Taiwan-imported tea varieties growing here, besides the native Assamica type tea tree. One of these tea cultivars is the “Ruan Zhi” or “N°. 17” cultivar. Meanwhile, the local community, consisting of ethnic Chinese settlers and several mountain tribes, has made tea the region’s major cash crop.

Taste and Appearance

The low oxidation level of this Oolong tea finds reflection in the clear, bright green color of its cup. And the infusion’s aerial, gentle flowery-fresh fragrance already hints at this Oolong tea specialty’s complex taste pattern. To this end, the combination of such “Pouchong” Oolong tea with the fine flowery Osmanthus note makes a perfect match. Hence, the aroma donor complements the genuine Oolong tea taste, rather than dominating or even replacing it. Altogether, DMS Gui Hua Osmanthus Oolong combines smooth gentleness with soothing unobtrusiveness and luxurious wealth in natural perfection.

Preparation

DMS Gui Hua Osmanthus Oolong Tea produces best taste results with water temperatures of 80°C – 85°C. Further, we recommend a dosing of 3g tea leaves on 200ml water. After pouring the hot water over the tea leaves, let infuse for 2-3 minutes. And a second and third infusion will also appreciate your efforts of taking the time!
