Today, Taiwan ranks among the world’s most renowned tea-producing regions. High-altitude tea gardens, cool mountain climates, frequent mists, and mineral-rich soils create ideal conditions for producing teas of extraordinary quality. Taiwan is especially famous for its exceptional Oolong teas. At the same time, however, the island also produces remarkable black teas and innovative specialty teas that have earned an outstanding international reputation.
Accordingly, the Taiwan Tea Sample Box at Siam Tea Shop contains 20g each of the following five teas, representing different growing regions within Taiwan, cultivars, and processing styles:
MiaoLi Oriental Beauty Oolong (Competition Grade)
Rare, authentic Oriental Beauty Oolong from MiaoLi, one of Taiwan’s most prestigious tea-growing regions. It is produced from the traditional Chin Shin Dah Pan cultivar. Tiny leafhoppers naturally bite the leaves and create the tea’s signature honey-sweet, fruity, and floral character. Its relatively high oxidation creates remarkable depth, velvety smoothness, and exceptional harmony. Oriental Beauty ranks among the finest treasures of Taiwanese tea craftsmanship. Competition Grade, its highest quality level, is available only in very limited, carefully selected quantities.
Sun Moon Lake Ruby #18 Black Tea
Ruby #18 originates from the shores of Taiwan’s famous Sun Moon Lake and is among the island’s best-known black teas. Refreshing hints of mint and well-aged wood complement rich notes of cinnamon and cocoa, creating an exceptionally complex and layered aroma. Naturally cultivated and artisan-made, this full-bodied tea impresses with outstanding depth, elegance, and intensity.
Alishan “ChiaYi” High Mountain Oolong
Grown at elevations above 1,500 meters in a natural tea garden surrounded by forested hills, this classic High Mountain Oolong benefits from the cool temperatures, frequent mountain mists, and fertile soils of Taiwan’s ChiaYi region. Careful hand picking and traditional artisan processing produce a lightly oxidized, unroasted Oolong with a silky texture and an elegant flavor profile marked by floral notes and delicate honey sweetness.
TaiTung LuYe Red Oolong
TaiTung LuYe Red Oolong combines traditional Oolong craftsmanship with elements of black tea processing, making it one of the most fascinating specialties of modern Taiwanese tea culture. Its amber-to-ruby-colored liquor offers aromas of ripe fruit, honey, brown sugar, and roasted nuts. On the palate, floral-fruity Oolong characteristics blend harmoniously with the malty richness and depth typically associated with black tea.
Alishan Jin Xuan High Mountain Oolong
This lightly oxidized, unroasted Jin Xuan Oolong is widely known as Milk Oolong because of its naturally creamy character. It reaches its finest expression in the high mountains of Alishan, the cultivar’s traditional home. Its delicate aroma evokes baked milk, vanilla, and honey, while subtle floral notes reminiscent of orchids, lilac, and honeysuckle add elegance, complexity, and remarkable refinement.
