Professional tea tasting was standardized in England in the 18th century in order to evaluate the quality of teas in a comparable and reproducible way. The tea tasting set played a crucial role in this by ensuring precision and consistency in the tasting process. Even today, professional tea tasters around the world use this method to analyze and evaluate the subtleties of the tea. A classic ​​area of application at producer level is the comparison of different batches of a specific picking. At retailer level, however, the cupping set usually serves to try newly received tea samples. Another important area of ​​application is the creation of tasty tea blends by appropriately trained tea tasters.

Components:
  1. Brewing / Infusion Vessel (cup with handle) – The heart of the set. This 0.15L vessel is designed for precise tea preparation. It has a serrated recess on the edge that allows for even and controlled pouring. To do this, hold the infusion vessel with both hands – right hand on the handle, left hand on the lid knob, tilt it and place it in the drinking vessel with the serrated recess facing downwards and the hole in the lid facing upwards so that the tea flows effortlessly into it. After pouring, turn the brewing vessel over with the lid on. Then shake it gently to collect the tea leaves in the lid..
  2. Lid – A multifunctional part of the set. The lid not only covers the brewing vessel, but also serves to inspect the wet tea leaves. That is, after pouring, you can use the lid to present the infused leaves. The precisely designed hole in the lid ensures the gentle flow out of the infuser with closed lid.
  3. Bowl –The (drinking) bowl allows you to properly check the color, aroma and taste of the tea you are tasting. Or to simply enjoy it!

How to use:
  • At first, put the tea leaves in the brewing vessel and pour with water of appropriate temperature. At this, the standard dosage for the 0.15L vessel for use in professional tea tasting is 2.85 grams and the standard infusion temperature is 90°C. Of course, you can freely adjust these parameters to your personal preferences and respective preparation purposes.
  • Then, allow the infusion to brew – the standard brewing time for professional tea tasting is 5 minutes. Of course, you can also adjust this parameter as you wish. For mere enjoyment purposes, shorter brewing might actually be recommendable.
  • After the brewing time has elapsed, grab the infusion vessel with the right hand by the handle and with the left hand by the lid knob. Then tilt it and place it in the drinking vessel with the serrated recess facing downwards and the hole in the lid facing upwards so that the tea can flow into it effortlessly.
  • After pouring, turn the preparation vessel upside down with the lid closed and shake gently to collect the wet tea leaves in the lid. Then turn the infusion vessel in the upright position again. Finally, place the upside-down lid with the wet tea leaves on top of the brewing vessel.
